Job Description:
Statement of Purpose:

Conducts concurrent and retrospective audits / studies to analyze processes and various aspects or components of operations in accordance to regulatory requirements, including clinical, fiscal-related, and other operational functions.

Primary tasks, duties, and responsibilities:

1.Promotes and practices the hospice mission and values and follows all policies and procedures of Tidewell Hospice.
2.Performs document / chart reviews for critical functions including:
•Areas of organizational key processes and / or issues identified through process reviews, etc.
•Special audits of individual staff documentation
•Routine and special audits with financial implications
•Special audits of industry wide issues (issues identified by NHPCO, OIG, etc.)
•Third party payer requests for chart information, such as CMS
•Issues identified as high risk or problem prone
•Areas of special interest related to adverse events
3.Assists with providing aggregate performance data for departments / clinical teams, management decision support and electronic medical record utilization as directed.
4.May assist with design of action plans to improve outcomes, including technology utilization as directed.
5.Coordinates requests for audits / studies and prioritizes in collaboration with supervisor.
6.Prepares audit / study results in a clear and understandable format and assists in presenting results to the colleagues who will be affected.
7.Maintains and assures confidentiality / validity of all patient information (PI), PI data and databases.
8.Demonstrates professionalism in verbal and written communication.
9.Responds to requests from regulatory agencies and other internal/external parties in a timely manner.
10.Assists in corporate compliance education and promotes a culture of compliance in the workplace.

Secondary Responsibilities:

Every incidental duty connected with the Internal Auditor position cannot be specified in the job description and the colleague, at the discretion of the Director of Compliance and Audit, may be required to perform duties that are not included in this job description.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the colleague is required to sit for long periods of time. Manual dexterity and visual acuity necessary to write, type using a computer keyboard and 10-key calculator, visually read information off of a computer monitor and paper documents. Requires ability to orally communicate information over the telephone, in person and hear responses. Requires ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. Ability to travel throughout service area.

Educational/Professional:
1.Associates Degree and Florida licensed RN required.
2.Previous Quality Monitoring / Quality Improvement / Utilization Review experience required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1.Strong PC skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office. Typing 35 wpm.
2.Working knowledge of electronic medical records systems is strongly preferred.
3.Strong interpersonal skills; able to effectively communicate with all levels within the organization.
4.Must work well in a team environment and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
5.Knowledge of data display techniques and ability to organize information for analysis.
6.Requires mental alertness, detail-oriented, ability to concentrate and good analytical skills.
7.Must be detail-oriented and committed to maintaining timeline objectives.
8.Must understand and be committed to confidentiality regarding protected health information and attorney-client privileged information.
9.Ability to tactfully and respectfully communicate (without compromise) compliance requirements in situations where those requirements may mean inconvenience and change to those they affect.
10.Valid Florida Driver’s license and auto insurance.

Machines/Equipment, Tools Used: All general office equipment including personal computer, telephone, fax/copier/scanner and 10-key calculator. Microsoft Office Suite and Electronic Medical Record.
