Looking for Home Health Aides in the Venice/North Port Area

THIS POSITION IS AVAILABLE WITH APPROVED HOME HEALTH. Approved Home Health became part of the Tidewell Hospice, Inc. family when it was purchased by the well-respected, not-for-profit hospice and palliative care provider. Approved Home Health’s alignment with Tidewell was a natural fit, since both agencies have always been passionate about helping people remain independent and stay in their homes, if that is their preference. Approved Home Health also supports people who have moved into a nursing home or assisted living facility by providing a level of one-on-one care that goes beyond what’s available at those facilities.


Statement of Purpose:

The Home Health Aide provides personal care, activities of daily living, and support services to meet various care needs of the clients while advocating independence and maintaining functional ability. Responsible for appropriately documenting patient care for assigned clients.

Primary tasks, duties, and responsibilities:

1. Promotes and practices the Tidewell Home Health, LLC mission and core values, and follows all policies
and procedures.
2. Provides personal care services, such as:
• Reading and recording temperature, pulse and respiration
• Maintaining a clean, safe and healthy environment
• Bed, sponge, tub or shower bathing
• Shampooing in sink, tub or shower
• Caring for nails and skin
• Oral hygiene
• Assisting with toileting and elimination
3. Applies safety principles and proper body mechanics to the performance of specific techniques of personal
and supportive care such as ambulation of clients, transferring clients, and assisting with the normal range
of motion.
4. Prepares and provides adequate nutrition and fluid intake: provides medically prescribed diets under
5. Performs homemaking and other environmental services that facilitate receiving sanitary and safe care at
6. Observes, reports and documents changes in client status or expectations of service promptly to a supervisor
or management.
7. Understands basic elements of body functioning and reports any changes as indicated.
8. Recognizes emergency situations and implements appropriate emergency procedures when indicated.
9. Demonstrates utilization of good basic infection control procedures and follows agency procedures,
especially with regard to infection control, handling of hazardous wastes, and safety measures in all
instances; utilizes universal precautions.
10. Accurately documents care provided and submits time sheets weekly.
11. Attends in-service programs according to agency policy; attends client-care conferences as directed.
12. Renders services in strict accordance with the written plan of care.

Secondary Responsibilities:

Every incidental duty connected with the Home Health Aide position cannot be specified in the job description and the colleague, at the discretion of the Director of Operations, may be required to perform duties that are not included in this job description.

Physical Requirements:

1. 18 years of age or older.
2. Ability to operate a motor vehicle and travel within the service area.


1. High School Diploma/GED
2. Graduate of a training program or competency program as required by State and Federal Regulations.
3. Twelve (12) months of work experience in a related field.
4. Meets applicable health requirements to provide patient/client care.
5. Must be CPR certified and have a PPD test.
6. An equivalent combination of professional experience and education may be considered as meeting the
educational/professional requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Physical Requirements:

1. Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks or functions.
2. Must be CPR certified.
3. Work is normally performed in patients homes and may involve occasional exposure to communicable diseases,
blood borne pathogens and/or potentially infectious or hazardous materials and situations that required
following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment (e.g. face masks,
latex and or non-latex gloves).
4. Medium physical activity that may require frequent lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs.
5. Ability to reposition and transfer clients safely.
6. Ability to carry bundles such as groceries and laundry up or down stairs safely.
7. Ability to stand, bend, stoop, squat, kneel and reach freely and assist clients with standing and walking.
8. Ability to hear, speak and write in English.
9. Ability to grasp with thumb in opposition to fingers of palm (i.e. DME supplies, knobs or objects).
10. Must have a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance. Ability to travel as needed.

Machines/Equipment, Tools Used:

1. Microsoft Office Suite
2. Keyboarding skills
3. Fax, copy machine, 10-kay adding machine, and multi-line telephone.
4. Operate a motor vehicle.
